Over the winter, our Senior Patrol Leader and Troop Scribe spent two weekends at Camp.Comer participating in the @gacbsa #NYLT leadership course.

The days were cold and the nights were colder - but they learned important leadership lessons they brought back to their troop which they will carry for life! (at Camp Comer Scout Reservation)

Hello all,

Troop 400 has been busy (we have pics, I’ll get to them when I can).

But I felt as a priority with the serious concerns of COVID-19 to join the rest of our scouting orgs in prioritising the safety of our youth, volunteers and community by dispelling ignorance with information.

Troop 400 continues to celebrate the life of Verdery Roberson and will join Troop 102 and the rest of our scouting community later this morning at the funeral service.

We thank him for being one of the few trailblazers for our African American youth to seek the rank of Eagle Scout.

We profoundly thank him for his legacy imparting the importance of swimming to our scouts especially in our community where access is limited, unaffordable and therefore underutilized.

Mr Verdery Roberson was always a friend of Scouting 400.

We commiserate with the rest of our scouting community, as well as his friends and family.

In 1944, four years after joining the Boy Scouts, he became the first African-American in the Georgia-Carolina Council of Boy Scouts to receive a Scout’s highest rank, Eagle Scout.

Mr Roberson was a World War II veteran and a VERY active member of our Scouting organization both locally and regionally.

He was a dedicated swimming instructor for our youth and we will continue to uplift his legacy through ensuring scouts in our most underserved communities have an opportunity to learn the important life skill of swimming.
